Each year, the MLC church family looks forward to fellowship after church with homemade ice cream as a delicious highlight. Even more though, we anticipate the fun we have in accomplishing two missions at the same time.

After the worship service on September 8, a lunch of pork sandwiches, chips, desserts, pie and homemade ice cream was enjoyed in the church basement.  The first mission project was a generous free will offering in conjunction with lunch to the Backpack Programs at Johnson-Brock Public School and Johnson County Central Public School.

We weren’t finished yet though!  A second mission project was tackled after the lunch.  It was time to pack school kits!

On each table where lunch was enjoyed, there was a box filled with school supplies.  One table may have had pens, while another may have had crayons, and so on.  The Sunday School children started at the first table with a backpack drawstring bag and then proceeded from table to table where the adults helped by giving the children whatever school supply item was on their table to be put into the backpack drawstring bag.

For each bag, school items that went into the bags were 2 notebooks, 5 pens, 5 pencils, an eraser, a ruler, a pencil sharpener, a pair of scissors, a glue stick, a box of markers, constructions paper, and a box of crayons.    All of the items were collected through the month of August by the MLC members and their visitors.

Over 140 school kits were packed in this fun event. They will be shipped through Orphan Grain Train. In many parts of the world children who don’t have school supplies cannot go to school and the school kits packed this day will be very beneficial by those in need.

As an extra local mission, some school supplies are also donated to our local schools.

As the event wrapped up there were a few pies auctioned off with the proceeds also going to the local Backpack Programs.

The Sunday School children as well as the adults enjoyed helping with the Mission Projects!

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:16
